Outreach and Engagement

LA Family Housing uses street-based outreach and in-person engagement to begin the process of moving people home.

In 2023, LAFH’s outreach team engaged with 3,770 participants.

Of those participants, 86% chose to take advantage of further services to obtain housing.

Our trained specialists go into the community as part of multidisciplinary teams to make initial contact and maintain ongoing connections with people living on the streets, including those in encampments and hard-to-reach areas. LAFH Outreach team members work to establish trust over time, helping to connect these individuals with the housing solutions and essential supportive services that can end homelessness in their lives, including mental and physical healthcare, substance use support, trauma recovery counseling, benefits resources, and assistance with obtaining documentation needed to access services.

People Engaged Through Street Outreach

*The variance year-over-year in people engaged through street outreach is attributed to available resources for this service and enhanced data collection methods.

Partner Highlight / LAFH and LA Metro

In 2023, LA Family Housing partnered with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“Metro”) to expand its outreach initiatives by connecting unhoused individuals who use public transit with supportive services. In response to this need, LAFH’s Programs team launched two multidisciplinary Outreach teams to provide services on specific buses and subway lines throughout the San Fernando Valley. These teams include substance abuse specialists, peer advocates, outreach specialists, and mental health specialists. Together, they work to drive our mission forward and help people transition out of homelessness.
