Housing Placement

We believe that housing is a human right.

Using a Housing First approach, LAFH works with every individual and family who comes through our doors to connect them with the interim or permanent housing solution that best meets their unique needs. In addition to our own apartment portfolio, we manage a vast network of landlord connections to help people transitioning out of homelessness to find safe, permanent homes. Over the years, our housing model has successfully ended homelessness for thousands of Angelenos.

Interim Housing Placements

One of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life is hand someone keys and say, “Welcome home.”

Participant Spotlight

Lorena

When Lorena’s partner became physically abusive, she found herself in a situation she never wanted her three children to experience. Without any family nearby, Lorena had to make ends meet on her own. Even working two jobs, she wasn’t able to earn enough to afford an apartment for her family. With nowhere to turn, Lorena and her children began living in their car.

Once Lorena connected with LA Family Housing, her family’s journey to a stable life began. The family moved into an interim housing site, and her children were connected to School on Wheels, a partner agency that provided tutoring and school supplies. While LAFH’s Mental Health team worked with Lorena to support her recovery from years of trauma, she also benefited from access to credit repair services, child care, and employment services, helping her to get back on her feet financially.

With the help of LAFH’s Housing Navigation and Housing Location teams, Lorena’s family has now moved into a home of their own, and with the agency’s Stabilization team supporting them through this time of transition, they are set up for a more secure future.

Partner Highlight / United Way of Greater Los Angeles

For nearly 30 years, United Way of Greater Los Angeles (UWGLA) has been a close partner of LAFH in our work to end homelessness in Los Angeles. In 2023, United Way supported a number of our programs, none so great as the half a million-dollar investment in our work with Mayor Karen Bass' Inside Safe initiative to bring more unsheltered people in Los Angeles indoors than ever before.

Mayor Bass' unprecedented campaign has helped LAFH, as the regional lead partner with the City, move more people experiencing homelessness in our region off the streets and into motels and other temporary housing. With the support of United Way, LAFH has been able to supplement City funds to ensure that our Inside Safe participants have everything they need to not only come indoors, but to continue on their path to permanent housing and stay housed for good. This includes working with our Housing Navigation team to connect to supportive services, including mental health and substance use treatment, food resources, transportation, and employment placement services, as well as other wraparound supports.
